Maria Johnston is the Business Development Director of Humanities & Social Sciences at DCU Innovate. She has 20 years’ experience leading innovation and entrepreneurship activities at DCU. She spearheads knowledge transfer opportunities within Humanities & Social Sciences, Education and Business to drive societal impact. Managing DCU’s consultancy service, she connects organisations with DCU academics from all disciplines. She designs bespoke training programmes and events that equip researchers with the skills needed for successful commercialisation. With a strong background in entrepreneurship, she leads DCU’s efforts in delivering the EI New Frontiers Programme with DkIT.
Prior to her current role, she managed DCU’s business incubation facility, supporting 500+ tech startups and entrepreneurs. Originally, she managed the precursor to the Insight research centre securing significant government funding. With expertise spanning senior roles in both private and public sectors, Maria holds a Bachelor of Education, an MBA and a Certificate in Technology Commercialisation. A passionate advocate for research, innovation and entrepreneurship, she is committed to fostering a DCU ecosystem where research makes a positive impact on society.
